The comprehensive annual audit of the community-led "Mission Harit Khejri" reveals unprecedented success in desert afforestation, driven by traditional rainwater harvesting and dedicated farmer stewardship.

Bikaner: In an inspiring testament to community ecology, the annual audit conducted by independent botanical scientists has validated that over 92,000 of the 100,000 Khejri saplings planted during the previous monsoon across Bikaner, Jodhpur, and Nagaur have successfully taken root.

The Khejri tree (Prosopis cineraria), reverently called the "Kalpavriksha of the Thar", is the biological backbone of the desert ecosystem. Its deep taproots reach moisture up to 30 meters underground, while its nitrogen-fixing foliage enriches arid soils and feeds cattle during severe drought.
